Each month, I receive a report showing which of my songs have been streamed, the total for the month, the service being used (Spotify, Apple Music, Facebook, etc.), and so forth. One thing that surprised me when I started receiving these reports was the granularity they provided not only on what was being streamed, but also where. While I have had this information for a while, it was only recently I realized that with a little manipulation of the data, this information could all be plotted on a map:

The first time I plotted this data I was surprised at the coverage these songs have received – I couldn’t believe that almost the entire map was shaded in. Which made me start to wonder – where have these songs not been streamed?
Unfortunately, the granularity in these reports now actually became a slight hinderance. See that unshaded area north of Europe and east of Greenland? That’s Svalbard – an archipelago near the North Pole which is actually part of Norway. So should it be colored in since there have been streams in Norway? Or should it be considered as a separate territory and left blank?
And Svalbard isn’t the only example – there are territories like this around the globe. So to simplify this a little I looked to the United Nations, which today recognizes 195 different countries – 193 member states, plus 2 non-member observer states (the Holy See and the State of Palestine). While the map above still shows streams by individual regions (including territories), I’ll only count by country.
Of the 195 countries in the world, Michael DeLuca Music songs have now been streamed in 166 (about 85%) – leaving only 29 holdouts. And I’d love your help to try to fill in the rest.
I realize that some of these countries will probably be difficult to get. But if you happen to know someone in North Macedonia, Burundi, Tajikistan, or Tuvalu be sure to invite them to listen in – I’d love to turn more of the map blue. (And if you do know someone in Svalbard, don’t be afraid to mention this to them as well.)
And as for Burkina Faso, The Gambia, Malawi, and Djibouti, don’t worry – they’re already covered.
